International Festival of Author’s Films QUEST EUROPE 2008

Organizators: Lubuska School of Film and Television and Lubuska School of Photography associated with Academy of Creative Research in Zielona Gora.

QUEST EUROPE is committed to explore, examine and celebrate independent film making. We are cordially inviting all those seeking alternatives to the offerings of major studios and are eager to touch the most important mankind issues.  QUEST EUROPE showcases the works of filmmakers from all over the Europe whose films demonstrate the highest quality, innovation, originality, and independence in both form and content. While the majority of the festival program is devoted to the highest quality films, documentaries and features that do not yet have wide distribution, we will also accept the work of independent film professionals. In addition to providing an artistic platform for the discussions about films and the issues they raise, we propose series of special showcases, screenplay writing workshops, Film Romance with Art, thematic lectures, seminars, concerts from Film Waterfalls of Sound series, and film dance party.

Festival Name..

Originates from fantasy novels where main character usually has a mission, quest to fulfill. Preparing this festival we are in quest of drawing audience attention to new artistic phenomena and pour some vitality to summer in Zielona Gora. Between the cinema screen and spectator’s mind one can find a trace of the most important mankind answers. This is the moment when empathic dialog may begin. Filmmaking is considered an art in some moments and indeed the greatest art it may be, and as such we would like to present it in our festival. Hence we would like to invite all fastidious creators and spectators to participate in our festival. Those looking for trivial issues are referred to markets and multiplexes.

Awards:

Prominent representatives of film and cultural environment will award first prizes in two categories:

  THE BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE – monetary and substantial award

THE BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE - monetary and substantial award

The funest dialog - Comedy Central award

The funest scene - Comedy Central award

Lubuska School of Film and Television special price – one year in school

In addition OFFscars nominations in eight categories will be awarded:

1.       The best narrative feature

2.       The best direction

3.       The best actress

4.       The best actor

5.       The best screenplay

6.       The best photography

7.       The best editing

8.       The best documentary feature

OFFscars, with their three years tradition, are the summary of an output of Polish independent filmmaking. They are considered the most prestigious film award among Polish independent film environment. Nominations to OFFscars are awarded separately by six independent Juries from all over the country.

QE Festival Film series:

1.       Film Out-door scenery – summer Holiday’s evenings, Zielona Gora downtown

2.      MAIN CONTEST – NEWA CIMENA, AUGUST (29^TH-31^TH )

Submitted features will be appraised and the best narrative and documentary feature prizes along with OFFscars nominations will be awarded.

Showcases will take the place during last weekend of August from morning until evening with various additional artistic events in between.

All showcases will be accompanied by festival radio transmissions – Radio Cinema Café – where detailed relations of each show will be presented along with filmmakers and festival’s guests interviews. Transmissions will be led by Radio Zachod and Zielona Gora Radio reporters.
